Robo Guild

Shared robots, run city by city

The Hardware Pool

The Guild is worldwide. The robots are local. Each node is a city with a venue, a steward and a fleet of open-source robots members share. Berlin is first.

How a node works

  1. 1

    A city, a venue, a steward

A steward hosts Guild Night at a makerspace, lab or office. The node's operator owns the robots.

  2. 2

    Ten founding members launch it

The operator buys the first robot. Ten founding seats buy the rest of the launch fleet, and their holders crew it for the node's life.

  3. 3

Guild Night, then take it home

Any Guild member can come weekly to get unstuck. Pool members take robots home until the next night.

  4. 4

    One charter, every node

The same four rules and the same worldwide Guild stand behind every node, wherever it opens.

What a node offers

  • The fleet

Open-source robots with ship names, to use at the venue or take home.

  • Borrow before buying

Take a robot home before spending your own money on one.

  • Builder Salons

Small, vetted evenings with people who build things. Pool members get priority places.

  • A fair deposit

Roughly the robot's value, back in full when it returns complete and working.

  • A fleet that grows

More members, more robots. Founding members vote on each one and book first.

Founding seats, then everyone

Every node opens with ten founding seats. Once they're taken, that offer closes for good. After that: yearly or monthly.

Founding Member, per node

€290once

Ten per node. Access to every robot while the node runs, including those added later. A vote on each, first pick when booking and your name in the fleet register.

After the tenth seat

From then on, the only way in is yearly or monthly membership: same robots, loans and priority Salon places. No vote, no register entry. It renews.

Yearly €190Monthly €19 + €49 one-time no-freeloader fee

Questions

Do I need to live near a node?

For the robots, yes: loans start and end at Guild Night. Everything else in the Guild is online and free, wherever you are.

Who owns the robots?

The node's operator, who also takes payment and holds the deposit. In Berlin that's Alex Adamov Digital Services, the steward's business. Members get access to the fleet, never ownership.

Does a Berlin seat work at other nodes?

A seat covers its own node's fleet: robots stay local. The Guild, Discord and learning resources are free everywhere.

Do nodes lend spare parts?

No. Nodes lend robots, never spare parts, components or electronics. Sourcing those for your own builds is on you, and half the learning.
